PHILOSOPHY

CSRG represents an attitude that has a lot to do with the appreciation, preservation, and use of vintage cars and relatively little to do with conventional racing, which defines the car as a tool with which to win at all costs.

Our racing also provides a margin that stresses the irreplaceable nature of a piece of racing history as taking precedence over any individual’s need to win.

CSRG does not and will not discourage competition, provided it is done with safety and respect for one’s fellow drivers. Cooperation between the fast and the not-so-fast is mandatory and in keeping with the concept of maximizing enjoyment for all.

Vintage racing, as defined by CSRG, is very different from other forms of racing in that it is based upon participation, not victory. The veteran respects the novice’s right to the track, and the novice respects the veteran’s right to motor to the extent of his or her ability and good judgement. Formal licensing is replaced by mutual respect for each other’s rights.

The participant whose only purpose is winning has no place in the CSRG structure.

ELIGIBILITY

Request for acceptance of an entry for a CSRG event requires each entrant/driver to have current CSRG membership and a current valid medical card. Novices are required to have participated in a competition driving course. CSRG conducts a drivers’ clinic at the beginning of each season to acclimate drivers to vintage racing.

Vehicle acceptance for a CSRG event requires that each car be approved by the Board of Directors. This approval starts with the presentation of a completed "race car submission form" to the car eligibility committee prior to the event, along with any documented race history and photographs of the completed car. If approved, the car will be given a provisional acceptance for its first event. The car will then be inspected at its first event to assure that it in fact complies with CSRG eligibility rules.

All cars must be documented as complying with either FIA or SCCA rules for the eligible time period. A car which actually raced in its present configuration under rules within the eligible time period other than those of the FIA or SCCA may also be accepted at the Board’s discretion.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Vintage racing, as is all racing, is dangerous, but the proper installation and use of certain safety equipment can help to protect the participants. Roll bars, seatbelts, shoulder harnesses, fuel cells, catch cans, fire extinguishers, mirrors, and cut-off switches are but a few of the items intended for this purpose. CSRG strongly encourages its members to take advantage of all available safety precautions and equipment.

DRIVER BEHAVIOR

A driver’s behavior is monitored frequently while on the track by observers whose role it is to insure that all participants conduct themselves in a safe manner while on the racing circuit. Failure to conduct oneself in this manner is grounds for immediate expulsion from current and future events at the discretion of the Board, and applies without benefit of appeal.
