2017 CSRG David Love Memorial Vintage Car Road Races
Sonoma Raceway
March 31-April 2

The David Love Memorial honors one of CSRG's founders, David Love. David was a racer like few others. He began racing in the '50s with a series of Porsches, Morgans and even a Formula Junior thrown in for good measure. He later purchased the car with which he will always be identified---a1958, "pontoon fender", Ferrari Testa Rossa and he raced it virtually uninterrupted from the '60s through the '90s at all the important West Coast vintage events.

For the spectator this is a chance to do a little time travel back to the '50s, '60s & early '70s to see the evolution of race car design & development in the wonderful environment of the Sonoma wine country. Bring a picnic or enjoy the excellent food and craft beer and wine that are available in the paddock. If you want some exercise, bring a bike and ride the perimeter roads & watch the track action while overlooking the bay & the San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refuge.

For the entrant, the Love Memorial is a very popular kickoff to the racing season. As with a lot of season-starters the air is full of anticipation and excitement after an off-season of rebuilding race cars, fixing problems and perhaps even restoring a newly acquired car. We typically get a very healthy field of entrants from up and down the West Coast who are trying to get a jump on their season. The Love Memorial has seven or eight run groups encompassing everything from Production Sports Cars to Can-Am, Trans-Am, F1 and a full complement of formula cars, particularly Formula Junior, Formula B and Formula Atlantic.

For each race group the schedule includes a Saturday qualifying session, followed by an afternoon qualifying race. On Sunday there's another qualifying race in the morning and a race in the afternoon. A Saturday night track dinner is included and is a must-attend event that allows you to relax after a busy day. After all, you're in Sonoma where food and wine are a must!

If you want more track time, you can participate in the Friday afternoon practice sessions for additional cost---usually @$200. You get three 15-minute track sessions in a slightly modified version of your weekend race group.

Additionally, during the lunch hour on both days, we have a Mechanical Picnic, that allows a member entrant to drive another member's car, or to take a friend for a ride for a few laps at near racing speed.

Spring Thunderhill Races Featuring Formula Vee
Thunderhill 3 Mile (East) Course
April 28-30

Register online (preferred) or download Entry Form (PDF)

We are returning to the 3 Mile track because the membership loves it. Get ready for fast sweepers & a great test of driving ability at one of the finest tracks on the West Coast. The provisional program consists of at least 30 minutes of practice on Saturday morning; a half-hour Mechanical picnic each day; a 30 minute qualifying race by Run Group Saturday afternoon; a paddock party Saturday night, featuring Jim Thompson's usual creative and delicious finger food; then at least two 30 minute races by Run Group on Sunday.

Thunderhill is a sound-control track, with a maximum of 103db sound allowed, so fit mufflers if in doubt.

Fees: CSRG requires all drivers be either a Full Racing Member of CSRG, or a Single-event Member. Our friends from other racing organizations may choose the Single-event Membership for $75, but we encourage you to consider joining CSRG as a Full Racing Member ($150/yr) and enjoy the full benefits of membership throughout the year. Full Racing Members of CSRG who haven't renewed their membership must renew at csrg.motorsportsreg.com before their race entry is processed.

The CSRG Charity Challenge

The Charity Challenge is the most exciting, bang for the buck, feel-good vintage racing event on the West Coast. Over the past five years it's grown at a phenomenal rate to the point where it's on every racer's short list. From the driver's gift at registration to the last checkered flag on Sunday, the Charity Challenge is a delight.

The Charity Challenge is more than a car event. It's an immersion into the type of road racing experience that people loved back in the 60s and earlier---only without the drawback of Port-a-Potties or spec cars with spec motors & drivers with the personality of dead grass. Instead, you get great cars, great racing and great people with a love of the sport to match your own. You will probably eat too much from the food and beverages available at the track, and be exhausted when it's over, but it's worth it. You just cannot do any better….

On Saturday all Race Groups have a qualifying session in the morning and a qualifying race in the afternoon. On Sunday morning there is another qualifying race, followed by a final race Sunday afternoon. As with the Love Memorial, you can participate in the Friday afternoon practice sessions for additional cost and receive three 15-minute track sessions in a slightly modified version of your weekend race group.

The feel-good aspect of the event comes from the money CSRG raises for the Sonoma Chapter of the Speedway Children's Charities through it's three-lap Track Rides for Charity program. The track rides consist of an out lap, a near-racing-speed lap and an in lap in one of the entered race cars. Last year we had everything from Can-Am cars to a Ferrari 250 GTO available for rides. We hope those of you with passenger seats and belts in your car will participate as well. The cost is tax deductible, both to the passenger and the car owner. To volunteer to give track rides please contact Race Director Geoff Pitts at: race.director@csrgweb.org)

The Saturday night track dinner is a wonderful gathering of all the entrants, entrants' spouses, crews, corner workers, CSRG personnel and more. This is your chance to wind down, enjoy good food and wine and finally have the time for a conversation with your fellow motorheads. Sonoma has wonderful restaurants, but we're talking ambience and relaxation here. It is the place to dine in Sonoma over the Charity Challenge weekend!

Thunderhill 3 Mile (East) Course Dinner at Willows Memorial Hall
Nov. 3-5

Register online (preferred) or download Entry Form (Word)

The 2017 CSRG Season Finale and Awards Dinner, Nov. 3-5 at Thunderhill Raceway Park, Willows, CA.

Join us for the best party weekend of the 2015 Vintage racing season: our 48th Season Finale race weekend at Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows, CA, supporting the Glenn Clinic Foundation, which provides emergency medical support for the track as well as the rest of Glenn County. Please make a contribution to this essential service in the space provided on the entry form. Every $10 helps the Clinic maintain and improve its medical capabilities. We're running on the 3 mile, traditional Thunderhill course. Thunderhill Raceway Park is a fast, technical driver’s track with an excellent surface, plenty of run-off, and outstanding amenities, including covered paddock space, plenty of electric
power in the paddock, a comfortable lounge with WiFi, and an enclosed thirdfloor Tower Viewing Area with elevator service.

All CSRG eligible cars are welcome

Thunderhill is a sound-control track, with a maximum of 103db sound allowed, so fit mufflers if in doubt.

Willows is a historically significant agricultural town and County Seat, with some interesting architecture and good quality overnight accommodations in a wide price range. While there is perhaps a shortage of four-star restaurants, there are some good eateries within fifteen miles of town, and the catered CSRG Saturday dinner is always very good. Some 40 minutes away is the quite sophisticated University Town of Chico, which has great shopping and food.

Schedule:
This is an Open Admission Event: no tickets required, only signing the gate waiver, so bring a cheering gallery.
Thursday: Paddock access at 5 pm. Tech Inspection 5 pm to dusk.
Friday features afternoon Test & Tune by Run Group.
Saturday is Morning Practice, a Qualifying Race and an afternoon Feature Race,
all by Run Group, followed by the ever-popular CSRG Awards Dinner for all
entrants, their guests, track workers and volunteers, again held at the Willows
Veterans Memorial Hall. Transportation from and back to the track for those
staying at the track will be arranged.
Sunday, a morning warm-up followed by a day's racing. Mechanical Picnic both Saturday and Sunday, so you can exchange cars, or give rides to anyone sixteen or older.

Check csrgracing.org for developing news on special events and features. Schedule and run group lists two weeks before the event, or check who's entered on your CSRG.Motorsportreg.com home page.

Fees: You must be a Member of CSRG to enter this racing event.
If you have not registered for this year's CSRG Full Racing Membership and paid $150 dues, you must pay the Single-event Membership dues of $75.

CSRG Full Racing Member Entry Fee $500
Single-event CSRG Membership Dues (Member for this event only) $75
Additional car with same driver $250ea.
Friday afternoon test & tune $175
