| Car(s) History |
The car has been a racer for a long time. I know the last three owners but before that the history is unknown. Bert Levy once mooched a ride in this car; I believe when it was owned my CSRG member Dan Haney. I bought it with a destroyed, dry sump, 1600 x-flow motor and built up the proper 1500 from scratch. The car is a blast to drive, especially on tight courses like Sears Point. |
| Why I vintage race |
I have been a road race fan and participent since college. I raced SCCA seriously and succussfully back in the 60's and 70's with a Bug Eye. I saw the Lotus Seven A on the cover of R&T around 1960 and decided I needed one. It wasn't till 1998 that I found one, full of water, under a plum tree in Hollister, CA. That car is still under restoration. As things were going slow, I picked up a BMW 2002 for Club racing and a little SCCA regional. Well as you know, SCCA is push and shove to get to the front. The 2002 was destroyed in a crash by a Miata trying to pass on the out side of the carrousel at SPIR. I picked up another Seven without a motor and decided that running for for points and trophys was a thing of the past for me. I really like the low pressure, no contact aspect of Vintage racing. When the cars are older that some of the drivers they get respect. Hanging with the guys and making new friends is a real bonus. |
