| Why I vintage race |
While living in London, England in 1958 I became interested in sportscar racing. Joined the Harrow Car Club and the American Drivers Club and competed in "Driving Tests" and Ralleys. In '69 moved to Pacific Northwest and converted an '69 Triumph Spitfire to race trim and began Production car racing in FProd. Won the FP championship in 1975, '76, '77 and '78 racing at Seattle, Vancouver BC, Portland and other tracks. In '79 and '80 served as Race Steward. In 1979 restored from the frame up, including engine, a '66 Lotus Elan S2 and raced in CProd and GT3. Won the CP championship each year from 1983 to '88. In '82 & '83 served as President of ICSCC. Returned to California in 1989, and since SCCA would not "grandfather" the Elan, began driving with various Vintage organizations. I joined CSRG in 1996 when the Elan was accecped. Retired from active driving when, due to a stroke, my skills had diminished. The Lotus Elan I built still races in CSRG. I have continued with CSRG in several capacities - incident investigator and Chief of Tech. |
